Overview

We still make farm calls

Large animal care at LegacyVet covers wellness, surgery and internal medicine for horses, cattle and other farm animals. Some animals can come to our Stilwell clinic. Many are easier and calmer to treat at home, so we come to you.

Owning livestock and pets in the same household is common here. With LegacyVet, the same team can look after the horse in the pasture and the dog on the porch, and you only need one number.

How farm calls work

Call the Stilwell clinic and tell us about the animal and what you are seeing. We will ask where you are, how many animals need to be seen, and whether you have a safe place to hold them, like a stall, a chute or a pen. Then we set a time to come out.

Having the animal caught and in a safe, well-lit spot when we arrive keeps everyone safe and makes the visit go faster. If you have records, a list of past treatments or anything given in the last few days, have that ready too.

Call our Stilwell team to set up a farm call. Tell us about the animal and we will plan the visit.

Wellness care for horses and cattle

Like pets, large animals do better with routine care. A yearly visit is a good time for an exam, vaccines and a talk about parasite control, feed and body condition. For horses, we also look at teeth, feet and movement. For cattle, we can talk about the health of the whole herd as well as single animals.

Catching a small problem early is usually easier on the animal, and on your budget, than treating a big one later. If cost is a worry, see our payment plan options.

When a large animal is sick or hurt

Call us if a horse shows signs of colic, such as rolling, pawing or not passing manure. Call if an animal is down and cannot get up, has a deep wound, is not eating, or is having trouble giving birth. These problems can get worse fast, so it is best to call as soon as you notice them.

Tell us what you see, how long it has been going on and what, if anything, you have already given. We will tell you what to do while you wait. For after-hours emergencies, read our emergency care guide.

Surgery and ongoing care

Some large animal problems need surgery or a longer treatment plan. We explain the options, what recovery looks like and how much aftercare you will need to give. Then we stay with you through the follow-up visits.

If you also have dogs or cats, our small animal care is available at both locations.
